PlayStation 3 emulator adds 4K support — the results are stunning

RPCS3, the in-development PlayStation 3 emulator that recently drew some unwanted attention from publisher Atlus, just added support for two features that make last-gen games look really, really good.

High resolution rendering in RPCS3 adds support for “resolutions far exceeding what the PS3 could handle” — up to 10K, according to the emulator’s creators. “Although, we doubt many users will have the setup necessary to benefit from 10k today,” the creators wrote, “emulation is all about preserving for tomorrow.”

To show off high resolution rendering, RPCS3’s creators released a video showing PS3 titles Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Demon’s Souls, Yakuza 4, Catherine and Tekken 6 running at 4K. You can watch that footage, with 720p resolution footage for comparison, in the YouTube video above.

The developers point out that the emulator’s other new feature in RPCS3, anisotropic filtering up to 16x, also helps PS3 titles look much sharper in the emulator.

“The difference is quite incredible in titles that have high quality assets,” the developers said. “There is a lot of detail that just wasn’t visible at 720p. This feature is available for every PlayStation 3 game running on RPCS3. The only exception being that it does not yet work with Strict Rendering Mode. Games that require this setting will have to wait a bit longer before they can benefit from high resolution rendering.”

Plus, TV commercials pay for the TV shows that are on. We understand that. Continue reading “What is Online Tracking?”
